Andermatt receives organic OF&G approval for combi-protec

Andermatt are excited to announce that another product in their portfolio has been accredited as suitable for use in organic growing systems.

The UK organic accreditation body Organic Farmers and Growers (OF&G) have approved the use of registered adjuvant combi-protec in organic crops.

combi-protec, from Germany manufacturers DedeTech, is approved for use in the UK on both edible and non-edible crops with any authorised plant protection product.

The primary use of combi-protec is for management of Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD, Drosophila suzukii) where it attracts and then encourages adult flies to feed more on spray droplets.

This increased feeding results in greater insecticide uptake and faster insect mortality. This faster mortality is especially important for management of SWD where females can fly into the crop area with eggs ready to lay in fruit.

Adult flies can over winter in wild areas surrounding crops and then fly into the crop field to lay eggs in crops such as strawberry, raspberry, blueberry and cherries.

SWD damage

Spotted Wing Drosophila is a challenging pest to control, especially in organic cropping systems where control measures available to growers can be even more limiting.

This accreditation from OF&G offers organic soft fruit and stone fruit growers an additional tool in the control of SWD.
